Community Garden

Carterton Community Garden

Our team coordinates the maintenance and development of the Carterton Community Garden, which is located behind the Clocktower in the grounds of Haumanu House, the local community hub. Produce from the garden is used to supplement food distributed by the Carterton Foodbank, which is based at the same site. Workers in the  garden are also encouraged to plant and harvest crops for their own uses. We welcome new volunteers and also appreciate donations of seeds, seedlings, plants, mulch, lawn clippings, coffee grounds, etc.

Recently, we received a grant for the Carterton District Council’s waste minimisation fund to collect organic waste from the local community and turn it into compost at the garden. Contact us if you’d like to help with this enterprise or have some organic waste that needs repurposing.

Garden working bees are on Thursday afternoons from 1 to 3 pm

Cooking Workshop

Cooking Classes

Our team of disabled adults cook up a storm every Thursday morning from 10 am to 12 pm.

This year we’ve had a variety of tutors and have been based at James Holli’s house on Norfolk Road, but shortly we’ll be relocating to the Carterton Events Centre where proximity to the community garden means that we will be able to run a Garden to Table programme.
